Lavender Moon Gallery is hosting Jan Bovard for a pottery show featuring more than 500 teacups.
Bovard has been a ceramic artist since 1973 and lives and works at her studio on a 7-acre macadamia nut farm in Kona. She has travelled throughout Asia, the Pacific and Europe gathering inspiration and techniques. Most notably was time spent in Japan where she participated as a resident studio potter at Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park.
“500 Teacups” is a celebration of vision, commitment and perseverance. One teacup at a time, this ambitious project has taken Bovard more than two years to complete. For Bovard it’s a meditation.
“It frees me from all other thoughts and brings me a feeling of joy and peace. Working with clay is a never-ending challenge. I am always experimenting with different clays, glazes and techniques. I am a functional potter. I like my pottery to be used, touched, and handled,” she said
An artist reception will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 6 and 7 at Lavender Moon Gallery in Kainaliu.
